savage varminter model 10-1 in 12 twist what to use in it 22-250

I bought this rifle new and for the life of me can not seem to get a good
load worked up...I have tried 55 gr V MAX with some success but done
real good.I have tried 4064 powder with almost zero results..H380
Varget- RL 15-H4895-the list goes on and on..I sent it back to savage
and they sent it back, saying they polished the chamber ?And included
4 empty case's with no letter saying anything..
I have over 600 rounds through this and so farnothing to brag about..

I am thinking of rebarreling it...But not sure yet...I suppose it is possible
the barrel is no good and savage just din't give a ****..

What have some of you found to be the best in you 1 IN 12 TWIST,ONLY

i HAVE not tried anything less then 52 grain bullets....Most target shooting
will be 250 yards...At this distance how much do you think the wind will effect
    a lighter bullet...Please feel free to comment...John

Hi In every rifle or barrel that I have shot, that was chambered in 22-250 that would be a dozen give or take, I have never seen one not like 40 Vmax's and 40gr of varget, even the 9 twist ones, I currently shoot 42gr of varget and 40 Vmax's with my 14 twist Mcgowen.

I don't know if it's the way they machine the chambers or what, I do know that unlike any other barrel maker I can load way over recommended max and still show no signs of pressure, it makes for nasty rounds.

My factory barrel likes H4350 and was easy to find a good load. Despite covering a wide range I could not get H380 to shoot very well either, plus the pressures are high well within the recommended loads. With 55gr Vmax the H4350 has given 1/2" groups at 200yd.

Never found a load that wouldn't shoot with Win 760/H414(same powder).
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

Mine likes the slower powders, W760 & Ramshot Big Game shoot the best.
