    Stevens 311 Hammer Spring ?

If I were to remove the hammer springs on a Stevens 311.
How hard is it to compress the springs and reassemble it? Is there a tool for this?
    How about a homeade toll?
    Thank you

    remove - easy

re-install - another story. You will need to make a slave pin and you have to cock the hammers to do it so you need a tool to do that. You can make one with not much problem - a medium to small flat blade screwdirver with a "Z" bend in the shaft will do it. You will need to look at the receiver and location of the pin and hammers to figure out how long to make the various parts of the "Z".

Still a tough job that requires a vise, 3 hands, and at least a 6 pack (you may be better at it than me though...)
