    End of Year Buying Spree

A number of years ago I bought a Savage 1919 NRA Match Rifle at a farm auction. It's a cool little 22, looks like an 03A3 Springfield, is incredibly accurate for an off the shelf 22. The first 5 shots I fired at 25 yards made one hole you could cover with your finger tip. Researching the gun I found there were 3 major variants, the 1919, 1923 and 19-33. Toward the end of last year I had a few extra bucks and a 1923 came up on GB, and I won the bid on that one. A week or so later a 19-33 came up. It was already a little higher than I wanted to go, so I called a friend that is knowledgeable in all things 22. He said it was an early model 19-33, and had the proper sights, and other features for a 33. Plus, when Savage started producing the 33, they jumped to the serial number 45,000. This one was 45,024. I figured that probably made it first day of production so I bought that one. Now I have the 3 variants.

Another friend is into single shot target rifles. After playing with his, I decided I need one of them too. Found a nice Stevens Model 414 Armory, my collection of 22's is growing.

Last week a fellow collector said he was down sizing his collection and offered me his 1980A Saddle Gun in 250. It has the 1:10 twist. I've been looking for one of these for quite a while. I'm a happy camper.

That's a mighty nice collection you have there.

VERY nice collection. I love how the 1919 & 1930 mimic the Springfield 1903. Spitting image! On a glance I’d have idea they weren’t.
