Anybody got a balanced load for 308 ??

Like light bullet zeroed at 200-250 and a heavy bullet zeroed at 100.

I hunt SE deer and hogs mostly. Some in stands and some in swamps and woods.

Barnes has just come out with a 308, 110 gr tipped TSX that I am interested in and that bullet will take out most any deer or hog I am after.

Should be able to get 3250-3300 out of that bullet
Zeroed at 250 it would be 2.5" high at 125 and 3.4" low at 300.
Been shooting a 110 gr tipped TSX bullet in 6.8 spc at 2700 and its devisating on hogs
so I know it will work well in 308.

I tried to get a 220 gr prohunter to work with a 130 gr tipped TSX without resetting the scope but its too heavy.

I am thinking about the 180 gr tipped barned TSX for a heavy bullet for close encounters.
I should be able to get 2650 out of that bullet, but I think that might be too slow for the same scope setting.

Is there any general rule of thumb on something like that, IE bullet weight difference vs speed difference = roughly lighter bullet zeroed at 200, heavy bullet at 100 ??

My 308 will shoot 130 gr barnes bullets at 3150fps 2" high with 220 gr prohunters 2275fps at 4" low or a 6" spread at 100 yards which is too much.

A different animal but my 338/284 will shoot 160 gr tsx bullets at 3000 fps 5" high, 210 gr tsx bullets at 2650fps 2" high and 250 gr gamekings at 2350 at 0" all at 100 yards.

It takes a lot of work to get two different bullets to hit at the same point of impact. Even if it does, the down range ballistics are going to vary a great deal.

I've been working with a 375 H&H magnum trying to get a solid bullet to match up with my 300 grain TSX load. I have the TSX set at 2" high at 100 yards and I want to get a solid to hit at 0 at 100 yards with the same scope settings. I've tried about 20 different loads with 3 different solids and 3 kinds of powder but no luck so far.

    You are telling me.

I tried to get a full tilt 270 gr TSX load in a 375 ruger to match with a reduced load shooting a 225 gr bullet. I even down loaded the 225 bullet quite a bit and never could get it to work out.

What I have surmised after talking to a few people on the web, and looking back through my notes, is if you are shooting a projectile that is 20-25% heavier, and about 20% slower, that will be close to 2" high at 100 for the lighter projectile and zeroed for the heavier projectile.

Thats just in general though and looks about right for normal calibers.

What is the weight of your solid.

Sierra Matchkings 190gr BT Hollow Point is the max I go on my 10 twist barrels!

42.5 to 43.5grns Varget or Reloader 15 with CCI primers works for me! Also have good luck with Winchester primers. The 190's are potent.

I will shoot Hornady 110 TAP factory ammo (with no scope adjustments, same gun) and it's on the money up to 200yds. I have no idea how much or what powder Hornady uses.

    Havn't tried anything else.

I have been trying to accomplish the same thing for a while now and the only thing that has worked so far with the light bullets is a reduced load with the 110 gr. V-Max and XMP 5744 powder. Another obsession of mine is finding a 150 gr. cast bullet load that shoots to the same point of impact as a full power 150 gr. jacketed bullet. This hasn't been easy either.

Yep, a seriously reduced 110 gr load will probably work, but I have not gotten back to it.
Maybe around 2500-2600 fps or so just guessing. Only safe using H4895.

I really want to find a load that will work with a 200 gr gamekings, mostly for the .3 SD for hog huning
in the brush. I think I can get a barnes 130 or 150 gr bullet to work with that one.
