    conversion.

I did a search. not sure exactly still.

I have a stevens 200 in 223. can i convert this to a long action round like 30-06 of 270?

my main concern is if I can get a bolt head for it and if it will fit.

    I found this bolt head

    http://tinyurl.com/8o72elt

which says it wont fit.. but maybe you guys know better or have alternatives.

what is the screw spacing on your action? is the mag centerfeed or staggered feed? if you have the long action you can convert from 223 to 30-06 by changing out the bolthead and the mag assembly. you may have to change out your firinig pin assembly also(i believe). you would also have to change out the front baffle.

You need a .308 bolt head. a .30-06 or .270 will be to long to use as a repeater.

A Stevens 200 in .223 is a short action you will not be able to put a long action cartridge without making it a single shot rifle.
Even then you might have to remove the bolt to chamber a cartridge.

Yes if you don't mind sliding them in from the rear of the action and then putting the bolt back in. Get a short action .308 bolt head like BA said.

I'm certain there's plenty of folks who would trade you a long action for your short action...

Actually I would be interested in that trade if it is a SF action.

Get a 308 bolthead and then use a 308 based or 284 based cartridge. The 308W is a great round. If you want a bruser go 338F or 358W. If you need finess go with a 243W, 260Rem or the 7mm-08Rem. Speed and long range 6.5-284. I know....not perfect depictions of the calibers but the OP can research out of those choices. You could also stretch it with the SAM bolt head and do a WSSM or a SAUM/WSM. Being a reloader maximizes your choices.

    Just my $.02

In a Short Action a 30-06 will clear and eject an empty brass, but not a loaded round. To load just put round in nose first. To remove a loaded round you will have to pull the bolt.
