    Savage 220 single shot, hammerless

I have over the last few years gotten quite interested in the Savage 220 single shot hammerless, so much so that I have now 3, 220A in 20ga. for my current 3 grandchildren and looking at purchasing more as my two daughters/son in laws keep pooing the grandkids out!

(the three 220A in 20ga. and my Deerslayer)

I personally like the original 220 more then those with the letter prefix, and have been in search of one for sometime now in 20ga. I did find a 220 in 12ga sometime back that was in really rough shape, I had this idea that it would make a really neat Deerslayer so I drop it off at my local gunsmith and this is what came out.

The gun was pitted, lose and when the smith cut the barrel down (20") found out that the barrel was bored off center. After the smith cut and turned/centered the barrel, he threaded it to accept a rifled sabot Tru-Choke. He of course checked the action to makesure it was safe and cleaned it up the best he could. The finish he matted and blued, adding Remington slug gun rifle sights. Seeing that I live in Southwestern Michigan I'm unable to hunt deer with rifle so this little single shot gives this old fart a light, quick handling slug gun with the capability of hitting my target with sabot out to 100 to 150 yards. Even if I were to hunt where I could use a rifle I think I would preferred using this little slug gun cause of the forement reasons.

Been thinking of taking it back to the smith to see if he can add a picatinny rail behind the rear sight so that I can put on a quick release scope. Finding out that as I'm getting older, my arms aren't as long as I need them to be able to see.

I've seen a combo 219/220 some years back in 30-30/16ga. wasn't much interested in them at that time, probably wouldn't now seeing I prefer 20ga., but the concept is better then the Savage 24. Had a Savage 24H DL in 20ga/22WMR that between the weight of carrying it and the selector toggle kept breaking it was a real pain. Had I known about the 219/220 years ago I would have pick one of them up instead. If I could find a 219 barrel in 30-30 after I find the 20ga. I would probably get it and have my smith fit it to the receiver.
