    New member, old Model 19

Hey all, this is my Model 19 NRA (#48369), that my dad gave me when I was a teenager. He bought it new back around 1940 or so, and shot competitively with it, and I've put a lot of rounds through it myself. It's entirely original, and has always been a tack driver. I was wondering if someone with experience in appraising these beauties could advise me on what condition this would be considered to be in, according to the accepted standards. I have no idea how to interpret "NRA finish 80", etc. And it's value, as well? Thanks!

This is a later (1933-46) Model 19 NRA Match Rifle. Some people prefer this style as they have the more modern stock design, others prefer the earlier model which is more reminiscent of a military rifle. Here's a link to an early style model for sale on GunBroker.com

As for value, most I've seen sell on the auction sites usually go for somewhere between $200 and $400 in good to excellent condition. Those listed with a starting or Buy It Now price over $350 usually don't even get bid on unless they're in pristine, as-new condition. Most Savage rimfires aren't really highly sought after collectables so like most things it basically boils down to what someone's willing to give you for it.

Well, I certainly wouldn't call the rifle in the link in "very good" condition with the blueing that far gone... I found a page which purports to list the offical NRA standards. Going by that page, I'd call mine fine to excellent.
