    Sporter barrel - cut length & thread muzzle?


    If a guy wanted to cut a Savage factory sporter barrel down to 16.5", any idea what the muzzle diameter would be at that length?

    i checked 2 of my barrels and came up with .640 and .645 at 16.5" (measured from the breech).

    Thanks for that!

    Looks like 1/2-28 threading would work, but 5/8-24 would be a no-go...darn...

    I just measured a factory .270 at .6425 so I guess .640 - .645 pretty well covers it :)

    The threads would be .625...assuming 0.640" muzzle diameter, there's not much room for a shoulder.
