    Finally Mod. 25 22 hornet

Well after waiting a year and a half, yesterday I picked up my Walking Varminter 22 Hornet. My dealer ordered two of them. He opened the box which said 22 Hornet but the barrel was stamped 17 Hornet. He opened the other box and it was a 22 Hornet. It was the first 17 Hornet they have seen. So some are being shipped! But I wanted the Hornet. I went to the range and it was just as I expected from Savage. It shoots nickle sized groups at 100 yards. I am very happy with it. It shoots as good as all my other Savages. The magazine is some kind of material other than metal. Do not know what it is called, but it seems well made and fits very precise. The gun champers and ejects very smoothly. The black stock fits nicely and there is a nice soft butt pad. I was shooting 35 grain Vmax with 13 gr Lil Gun. It was worth the wait, Whitetail

Is it with or without a barrel nut? Sounds like a blast!

It has a smooth band at the end of the barrel, but it is not like the barrel nuts on my other Savages. I don't think I could call it a barrel nut. I believe it is a pinned barrel.

Savage has made a barrel nut the same as the regular one but has a smooth surface. This is on the 10/110 actions. Don't know if the 25 will be different. The smooth nut on the 10/110 still has the same threads, just a smooth surface barrel nut.
I bet it is a barrel nut. Just my guess.

I've had my local dealer (in SW. PA.) and have "scoured" the internet for the 17 Hornet. No luck.

The 25WV in 222 that i handled at the NRA Show had a smooth nut on it. It was not the same size as the 10/110/Axis barrels but it was a nut.

Glad to hear these are starting to find their way out of the factory.

Thanks for the info on smooth barrel nuts. I am not a gunsmith by any means so I am probably wrong. Shoots great so I am happy. Whitetail
