    300WM to 338-06?

Hi everybody, I am looking to build a 338-06 and found a 111 with wood stock bling mag think S.F in 300wm. I know I will need to change bolt face but will the box mag work? or do I have to change that as well?
    Thanks, Pete

Pete is that mag gold plated? What makes it Bling?

You can get the mag box at midway for about 9 dollars. Not sure if you will need a different follower or not but I doubt it.

at the least, you would have to bend the lips in for the smaller dia case.

I think your going to love that .338-06 as much as I love my .35 Whelen. You will fear nothing on this or most other continents.

I think the .338-06 is cool I have one and another in the works. That said I'd just run the .338 Win and be done with it. If you run the 06 version you're a hand loader anyway, so you can tailor the Win Mag to the 06 levels or run the full power for the 250+ grain bullets if you want. The .338-06 is best with 200-225 grain bullets. Plus it changes things to just a simple barrel swap no extra parts needed. The only reason I don't run the Win Mag is that if I feel I need a larger bullet I grab my .375 Ruger.

Here in New Jersey all I need is my muzzleloader and slug gun... I dont need another rifle but want one.. lol I might just wate for a 30-06 to build from. But the price on the 300 win mag is very good and that would help with the added parts cost..

Many of us think of "just one gun" or "a set of three guns" to cover our needs.

Hence the knee jerk response "Why take a perfectly good 300 WM and rebarrel to a less capable cartridge?"

There's also a bunch of us you think the same way you do. "I want it because it's cool!"

    Happy shooting!

Yep, you said it. I dont have time to shoot the ones I have. and everything I have can handle most of what I think I will ever hunt. Turns out I was looking at the wrong gun so the deal on the 300wm was not a deal.. I will just wate and see what I can find.. But at least I know what im getting into if I find a good deal.., thanks..

I built my .35 Whelen on a 30-06 and didnt have to change a thing. The m,agazine worked great. Keep an eye on AuctionArms and gunbroker, you might find an 06 cheap. Mine was an older flat back model.
