whats your best 600 or 1000 yd 5 shot group

Hello, I got my best group this past weekend at Hawks Ridge Gun Club 1000 yard Range during Match 5 in Factory gun class. I was shooting my F Class 6.5x284 Norma and shot a 4.796 only to get beat by another Savage 6.5x284 with a 4.771 . All I can say is these 2 rifles shoot. So anyone else had any great groups at 600 or a 1000 yards.

Nice shooting! A photo of your handi-work would go a long way.
I'm afaid the best I can do Is tell 400yd stories.... i'm just starting to learn 400 & 600yd line. My only advantage is having a few hundred acres of swamp land in the middle of the state where I can practice without embarassing myself too much.

Well done again. And remember, the rifle didn't do it alone.... And now, I must go & load some ammo. it's part of the OCD / Savage Shooter thing.

600 yards
Many groups in the low 2 inch area, best 1.773 with a 50 score.

With my stock 10fcp 308, at 630yds I shot at about 3/4moa for a 5 shot group with federal trophy bonded tip 180's.

Things clicked that day for that round, I shot it at every 100yds out to that 630 & it stood strong grouping from 1/2-3/4.

With federal gold medal 168's, I'd get about moa at 600 on a good day, 1 1/2moa with 175's.

When I chopped the barrel to 18" and added the brake, the 175's turned to gold vs. the 168's.

But the gun is now being turned into a custom 260, new rock barrel, adj. McMillan A5, action will be worked on, pillar bedded, sss comp trigger, machined lug... so on.

So we will see, but for now, the best is 3/4-1moa at 600 range.

I was very happy when shooting 600 yards to have my groups stay in the X ring

Can't say, never tried it.Here in my corner of the U.S.A. I don't even know where to go to shoot at those ranges,but at 100 &200 I usually stay under MOA,after all I shoot a Savage.
Good shooting though and I hope you post up some of your targets someday.

I've shot 1-1.3 inch groups at 300 yards. Best I can do so far. I haven't tried any farther yet. With savage .243

Best i have done was at 500 meters at our local range. 1.104" five shot group. Shot four different five shot groups that day and the largest measured 1.976" using a 260 aclkey improved on a savage 111 action with 26" Criterion barrel and lake city match brass.

Where we live 600 to 1000 yards would have to be on I-95 at 3:00am. Use the mile markers for targets. Watch for the headlights and time your shots. Long Island Sound? You have to go up to Mass to find 200 yards, right?? I would love to try the 73 grainers in my 1 in 9 VLP at distance. Seen on U-Tube 73 grainers 1 in 9 twist hit the trap door on a steel 16 X 12" plate @ 855 yards but that's pushing it.

Pete we are going to high jack this thread so I'll keep it short.
I shoot from 25-200 in Southington at Bell City, easy ride for you I91n,691 to I84e, exit 31 turn right,first kight turn right, end of road turn right,range on left about a 1/4 mile up.Only legit 200 yard range in the state,although North West in Norfolk is out there and getting longer it is not yet NRA.
Monthly BR matches open to anyone, for July there is a state championship on the 28-29th one day is 100 next is 200 with the combined score winning. Open to any and all guns and classes (IBS) except 50 bmg.
We get competitors from all N.E. states plus N.Y.,N.J.& Penn..

Haven't recorded any 5 shot groups, but this is a 3 shot group from my 6mm BRX at 500 yards. The target was a standard 500 yard F Class target. Had my target cam setup up and recorded it. I soon lost that rifle to my wife.....

Sort of. The MR-1 FC (600 yd F-Class) target center has a 3" X-ring, and 6" 10-ring. For NRA purposes, 'long range' starts @ 800yds, and the LR-FC target center has a 5" X and a 10" 10-ring, and is used for 800, 900 and 1000yds as is... so its a little easier @ 800 & 900. The 300yd F-Class target (MR-63 FC) has a 1.42" X and 2.87" 10-ring... reduced in size slightly to account for the reduced wind effect at closer distances. How exactly the powers-that-be calculate how much to reduce the scoring rings, etc. is unknown to me.

As far as the groups... thats a *very* nice group for 500yds! For whatever reason it seems like while I can shoot for score pretty well @ 600-1000yds... my efforts at long range groups are... not very good, to put it nicely. If I solely went off of group size, I'd never have entered an F-Class match ever. Then again, my home range (out to 600yds) isn't really kind as far as trying for 'small groups' - I usually settle for minimal vertical dispersion and call it good. One of these days I'm going to have to try that 'machine gun' technique I see some of the BR guys use

To start a benchrest target is much smaller than a f class target. In Benchrest there is no such thing as a 500 yard target. A 600 yard target is 21x24 inches the blue section (9 ring.) is 5.2 inches. the x ring is 1.5 inches, the 10 ring is 2.8 inches. A 1000 yard BR target is 42x42 inches the blue section (9 Ring.) is 13 inches. the x ring is 3 inches, the 10 ring is 7 inches.

Now a 1000 yard F class LR target is 45x45 has a x ring is 10 inches, the 10 ring is 20 inches, the 9 ring is 30 inchs. A 600 yard mr1f target has a x ring that is 6 inches, the 10 ring is 12 inches, and the 9 ring is 18 inches. A 500 yard mr65 target has a 5 inch x ring a 10 inch 10 ring and a 15 inch 9 ring. The link you provided is from 2004 - when F-Class didn't 'officially' exist, and when shot didn't use the 1/2 moa X and 1 moa 10-ring (that started @ the 2006 FCNC, and became official in January 2007). Pretty sure I know what the dimensions of the NRA regulation targets for both are... as I shoot both iron sights and F-Class from 300 to 1000yds. I stand by the dimensions I listed earlier.

That said... yes, the 600 & 1000yd BR targets are harder, if shot solely for score, as the rings are markedly smaller.

I've shot, scored, and marked many thousands of rounds in competition on these targets in the last five years since they've been in effect. Like I said... pretty sure I know the F-class target dimensions - and rules - better than most.
