most any of the standard short action calibers.
I have a savage lefty 12, 223.... that I love... and was wondering what calibers can I go to with barrel changes....?
Is there a chart somewhere...?

most any of the standard short action calibers.
..........and you may have to change the bolt head and magazine.

Your 223 has a bolthead that measures .378", but it takes about 5 minutes and $50 to swap out the bolthead for a .473" or a .532". So basically the options are MANY!!!!!!! Narrowing that list down is the hard part......LOL
What cartridge did you have in mind?

243 would be my next desire...
the only problem is.... my 223 shoots so good I hate to change it out.... but I do also have a couple of righty savage 110 243 that are doing nothing right now... but I really need lefties instead of righties....
Well.... wait a minute... I just realized that I also have a lefty savage 12 VLP in 204 that isn't being used much...
I know nothing about changing out barrels... but I'm trying to learn.... thanks...Dan

Buy a lefty .473 bolt head, extractor, extractor spring, extractor ball, ejector spring, ejector plunger, and ejector retaining pin for the bolt head. Then you will need a barrel nut wrench, action wrench, and a headspace gaugeOriginally Posted by daniel brothers
Assemble your bolt head, pull apart your bolt and swap the bolt head. Then pull both of the barrels , screw the new barrel down onto the gauge, tighten the nut. Poof you are done.
Great information... now...where do I get this stuff...?
and... can I replace the bull barrel with a sporter barrel... using the same stock... or does it need to go back with a bull...?

A sporter will work, but will be dangling out in space. If you can live with the look go for it, or if you are in the shopping mood get a stock, or thicker barrel.
I'd add a heavy recoil lug to the order. Look at Northlands pile of barrels..... Jim is a great guy to deal with and will point you in the right direction for much of what you need to finish the project.
Life is short, make every shot count.
Just look at the top of the page and you can find the sponsers. They have enough parts between them you can build a complete rifle. Just pick and choose your parts.
