    99E-- .243

Was offered a 99e, .243, on a trade. I know absolutely zip on any of the 99,s. Somebody help me out hear. What are they worth,, were they worth any thing to begin with. Are they a shooter, or just a wall hanger--I'm really in the dark on this gun. Finish was good, action was tight, bore was bright, rifling was very strong. Help!

It would be nice to have a photo but.....

If the gun is in good condition then it would make a good trade. Prices very based on condition but usually start at about 400 bucks and up based on condition and model 99.

99E is the work horse model of the line. Acurate for the most part if the rifle has not been abused. I currently have one in 300 savage and one in 308. Both shoot 1 inch groups or smaller at 100 yards.

Also affecting price is caliber and if it is a take down model. I have found the rifle in 250 savage demands a higher price. 243 in good condition you discribe would proubly be priced at 450 to 500 buck. 243 being a common caliber i would expect a price closer to 400 bucks then 500.

So if what you are trading is worth about the same ball park price then get it.

Me, I would get it anyway for cash if nothing else.

The "E" in 99E stood for "economy". It doesn't have any of the options most regular 99's have like a cartridge counter window or a tang safety. They were made with a less grade wood, some were birch and usually press checkered.

I'd say $350-$400. $400 better be a darned nice one though.

I bought one in .243 and it came with a K4 Weaver.

Gave 225 and never ....... NEVER looked back .... shoots very nice also.

Really do miss the round counter but that's all.
