Stevens 200 vs Model 12 FCV

Hey guys. I currently have a Stevens 200 chambered in 22-250. I bought this gun with the intentions to modify it. What I had intended to do was put a Rifle Basix or Timney trigger in it, upgrade the stock, and put a longer 24 or 26 inch barrel on it (possibly a Shilen), and add a larger bolt handle. However, the more I thought about it, I realized I was pretty much going to turn my 200 into a rifle very similar to the model 12 FCV. I would prefer the detachable magazine of the model 12. I know this can be done to the 200 as well, just more work and money.

So my question is would I be better off just buying a model 12 FCV? Would there be much difference in accuracy between the two? Or is there any need for a longer barrel? I am fairly new to Savage and centerfire rifles for that matter.

The rifle is my coyote gun, and will likely see some target shooting out to 500 or 600 yards.

I've learned the hard way, spend the few extra dollars and get what you want, weather that is a build or a complete rifle. If the 12 fcv is exactly what you want than sell the stevens and buy one, you would probably be ahead money wise, but the build will have better quality parts in it( better trigger, stock, and barrel).

I would build. Factory rifles with a few exceptions are always a compromise for me. When I build I get what I want. Plus for me the build is half the fun of this hobby.
