    Ruger american. rugers axis

So i finally got around to reading the latest american rifleman magazine and it has an interesting article on the ruger american rifle. They even talk about the similarities between it and savage rifles quite a bit. Does anyone know if it has the same shank size and threads as a savage. It looks like the stock design on the ruger would allow for an after market stock and would make for some interesting possibilities if the barrels would interchange of course. I havnt seen a ruger hit the shelves here locally yet to get a better look. Any thoughts?

I have one of each, the American and the Axis. The American appears to have finer barrel threads than the Axis. Concerning the American's stock, the aluminum bedding blocks will make it a little difficult to duplicate by normal methods.

Both rifles are very accurate and the Ruger has the better trigger. The Axis trigger can be worked on and there are aftermarket replacement triggers available for it.

I have always been a Ruger fan first and foremost and the love for savages is fairly recent and growing but that article sure got the mind to thinking about all kinds of neat and wonderfull things. To bad the barrels wont interchange that sure would have been sweet.

I always liked the Ruger M77 mk II. Off topic, can this action also take a barrel nut?
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I dont see why not with a properly made nut to fit the shank and threads.

I'm looking at the article right now and it says that the barrel measures "1.155" immediately ahead of the locking ring" which leads me to believe that the shank where the threads are are at lease that size. If that's the case it's slightly larger than the Savage large shank which is 1.125".
