I've been to frequently asked questionss -didnt see anything on mod 12 actions
my 1st question is are all mod 12's large shank- & short action ?
& do all have 3 action screws ?
which are repeaters & which are Single shot?
Im looking at buying a mod 12 -BVSS
this is a varmit action is it the same as target action ?
I believe varmit & target actions have different accu triggers ?
All the new mod 12's Ive looked at are SA
but I looked at a used BVSS for sale chambered in 300WM
if they are all SA -I supposed it would be a single shot only -in a LA caliber ?
Im trying to do all the research before buying another Savage
thanks for any responces

All two digit models, 10, 11, 12 etc. are short actions. Most are small shank but some are large. I will leave the rest of your questions for the real experts on here.
El Lobo
now we know not all are large shank -maybe its just target actions ?
my understanding is Target actions are Single shot only & have a lighter accutrigger with a red blade
& some varmit actions have blind mags - some dbm's ?
dry beans does yours have 3 action screws?
&what kind of stock ?-mag system ?
went to Savage web page & found some var 12 have dbm -some are matte-some stainless
on the target 12's only LRP has a dbm
still dont know about action screws -kinda think only target action have 3
some one will eventually shed some light on this for us - I hope
If your lucky enough to live in the BIG woods your lucky enough
mine is just a 2 hole 4.257 screw spacing
stagger feed

The biggest source of confusion is that they make 2 different 12 series.
The 12 Target Series and the 12 Varmint Series.
12 Series Target Actions are all large shank yes. The 12 Varmint series has a large shank if you get a 12 VLP DBM in 300 WSM.Originally Posted by Willoughby

Yes both the Varmint 12s and the Target 12s come both ways.& some varmit actions have blind mags - some dbm's ?
Yeah the Varmint 12s are really just regular SA Savages with a Varmint weight barrel on it.still dont know about action screws -kinda think only target action have 3
taken from someone who knows- post in firearms for sale

red accu trigger is target actions only - which are also large shank -
now if I knew what the difference in the number of action screws & spacing was, Id almost be there
target actions have 3 -& come in different spacing
what is the difference in the differently spaced action screws?
how many action screws on varmit actions - & what is the spacing on them ??????

The ones Jim is currently selling are listed as SA CF with DBM, so 2 screw 4.4" I would wager
