Savage M11 FCNS 300 WSM to .308 Win

Just committed to picking up a Savage M11 FNCS in 300 WSM.

What is needed to convert it to .308 Win?

Probably just a bolt head and barrel. Not sure about magazine.

Bolt head, firing pin assembly, magazine, and a large shank 308 barrel.

The Large Shank portion of your information is what I was trying to confirm.

Hmm. I think I'm going to go ahead and pick this up as it will end up being a very cheap donor rifle. I currently have a small shank 308 barrel on a Stevens 200 LA and the stock options available are abysmal. Thus the reason I was looking for a small shank donor to switch to. I am probably going to use this new action for a .260 Rem build that I want to start later this year and just finish building this .308 Win build in the Stevens 200 action. Got some help in getting the magazine affixed to a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock so that will have to do for this build.

May or may not need large shank barrel, depending on what I've read here.

It would be very rare for your WSM action to be small shank. Very rare. I've never seen one.

Small shank WSM exist only on the first production run of WSM. Hence the rarity...
