    Midway Varmint bullets

I bought some Midway Dogtown 55gr 6mm bullets and stopped shooting them in my 243 rifle because they were blowing up. So I load them with 40gr of 2230 in my 243 win Striker at about 3000 fps. Today about half blew up upon leaving the barrel. Some keyholed and others looked like tracers tumbling away. The gun shoots everything else great, but I will not buy anymore of these bullets.

Just throwing this out there for info.

The issue is the twist, or the RPM of the bullet.
I ran into this a few years back with my FP in 223.
Midway lists velocity, but no twist or RPM rating; which is the relevant info.

I know the .224" 55 gr dogtowns have about a 240-260,000 RPM rating
Don't know that it translates to a 243. but here is the formula, and your RPM(if it does)
    MV * 720 / twist = RPM

    3000 * 720 / 9 = 240,000 RPM
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

Slow them down. Like Darkker says, you are ripping them apart with centrifugal force. They are quite accurate and devastating on varmints when kept within their limits.

Thanks for the info. I have a few left yet and will slow down some more.
