What is the action length on the 300WinMag? Does Savage use the same action (and barrel diam) given that the 300WinMag is the same as the 30-06 in cartridge length? what is the max cartridge length that can fit into the mag? I'm looking at building a magnum rifle, what would otherwise be called a DGR but the Sambar down these parts tend to run away!! I would like to know whether I would be restricted to '06 length cartridges (win mags, 375/416 Rugers, Normas ) or have the option of H&H family of carts.

You need an H&H magazine to use H&H length cartridges. Action length is the same but the cartridges won't fit in 300 or 338 win mag box.
