    Model 12 LRPV

Hi.. I'm looking at the model 12 LRPV in 223 or 22-250 I will be shooting targets at my club out to 300m and some varmints like ground hog's and coyotes. I would like to know what the best twist rate and bullet weight would be for what I'm going to be doing. I was thinking a 12 for all around shooting but would like to hear from those with experience. I also will be using good factory ammo as I'm not reloading at this time. Thanks

I can personally recommend the LRPV. There is nothing really to want with this model. Shoots all ammo great and will really show off your hand loads. 69gr SMKs were my bullet of choice (and what Savage recommends with the 1:9 twist version). Mine can with the RBRP PTA and DBM.

This is my favorite factory model 12 (to date).

The only thing I would have done different was to have gone with the 1:7 twist so I could shoot the heavier 80gr SMKs for 600 yard matches. (so I ordered a 28" LS Bull .223 CBI in 1:8 twist ;o)

I have the Model 12 VLP in 22-250 1-12 twist and I absolutely love it! It's a tack driver and groundhog killer par excellance! Mine loves the 45 gr JHP bullets. You will have to experiment to see what yours likes. I don't think you will be sorry if you buy it. Just need to decide what twist rate you want for the size bullets and game you want to shoot.

Either one will be fine, 300 meters is really not that far, and very easy to get to accurately.
It won't require ultra match components to get there.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

I have the 22-250. It has the 9 twist and shoots 50 to 70 grain bullets very well.

It likes Reloder 15 powder, H414, and 4895 (in not to big a dose).

I would like a 223 also if I could afford it, it's a nice heavy rifle that holds still so you can see the Pdog disintegrate.

Your choice of caliber will depend on your usage, if you are going to shoot it a lot get a 223.

Check out the T/C Venture. Great accuracy at a good price. There's a recall on them right now due to a sear problem. Make sure yours it OK.
