.270 Short Mag = Meat tenderizer

I shot my first deer with my .270 Short Mag, and I'm convinced it's to much gun for me!! It devastated my poor doe!! I was shooting 140gr Sierra Gamekings BTHP half grain under max in Sierra load book with H4350. Great accuracy under an inch but, recoil is pretty stout but not bad, I think I'm gonna look for another .308 or maybe try a reduced load?

It pretty much blew the whole front of the deer away from a mid shoulder shot. LOL

DANG!!!!!!!!

I didn't know gamekings could be used for varmint bullets! ;D

Bet ya didn't have to track her very far! ;D

At least you got some meat outta it!

Try the Barnes TTSX bullets next time and see if it won't kill them without tenderizing them at the same time.

Sierra Pro hunters do a nice job with mine. Much easier on meat than those bad boys!

I shot a doe last year with a .308 loaded with 130gr TSX's and made a real good quartering toward me neck/shoulder junction shot, the deer died instantly and did'nt take a step. I'll be using Barnes again next year,But I still got a buck tag so maybe if I get one of those I can end up with one deers worth of meat.

Did the Barnes do that same kinda damage?

If you like the TSX, you'll love the TTSX!

No the Barnes worked well, quarter size hole in and no exit turned heart and lungs into pudding.

WOW!

My Winchester 270 WSM shot the 140 Nosler BTs so well, I never used the GameKings.

If you aim right, you might be able to kill and field dress in the same shot.

Nope no exit, in neck/shoulder junction hit far side shoulder then bounced into chest cavity. Could'nt find exit wound or bullet

Go with 140 accubonds. I killed several deer with my 270 WSM. Always left a nice quarter sized hole on the off side.

The 270 short mag is a powerful cartridge and needs a tougher bullet than the gameking in my opinion....but you found that out. :) Shoot a tougher bullet and you will love the results.

I had a doe come within 20yds and stop on Saturday and did'nt want to shoot it cause I knew what it would look like afterwards!
EFBell recommended Accubonds so I'm gonna give them a try if I get to red-tag this year.

Re: .270 Short Mag = Meat tenderizer

I had excellent results with the 140 Accubonds running 3341fps. I also used the 140 Berger (3300 fps) on an elk and was very pleased with the results, it went in and blew a hole through the heart and lungs without any meat damage.
I never got a shot on a deer with the Bergers but I expect they will do well after seeing how they work.

shot 3 deer this year with 110grn barnes ttsx very happy with results, none took a step. but i scewed up on the last one in a hurry when i left cabin and grabbed 3 110grn v- maxx, took her one white spot below chin at about 100yds wow what an exit hole. nothing left from the throat back. sorry no pics, and no recovered barnes.

Re: .270 Short Mag = Meat tenderizer

I added the 110 TTSX to my list, I got them shooting real nice around 3700fps. I'm using them for coyotes this season to see how they work. I was looking at the V-Max also but I don't need to blow them away like P-Dogs.
I think the 110 TTSX would do some real nice work for close to medium range deer.
