You need the bolt face for a 7.62X39/PPC. You need a .311 barrel
Is a barrel made in the caliber for the model 10 action?
If so would it use the same bolt face as the 5.56mm? ammo is cheap would make a great addtional barrel to have.

The 5.45 is actually a .21 caliber. The surplus ammo that is available is not very accurate, 2 m.o.a. at best.

Thanks for the info...I didn't think I would get much in the way of accuracy from the surplus stuffOriginally Posted by sharpshooter
Think anyone cuts a .21 barrel for the Savage action....Guess I need to measure the bolt face on my .223 and see if the 5.45 is the same.....maybe someone knows.
I'll measure my AK-74 bolt face when I get home. How exactly do I measure that?
cartridge base dia. is .394
rim dia for 223 is .376-8 same as 5.56x45
About .020 smaller face
Bolt face work needed.
Check with some of our sponsors concerning price of work and bbl availability.
Anything can be done if you have enough time AND money
Thanks for those measurements guys....Would cutting out the.014 approx from the bolt face rim weaken the bolt face too much? If so would the model 10 action strength maintain integrity if the bolt face failed?
no sir. all the bolt faces have the same outside dimensions
let us know if you find a good deal on a pre fit barrel somewhere for this caliber. We just acquired a couple thousand rounds of this stuff, and a screw on for one of the savages would be nice.
