first time out passed 200yrds with 10 fcp

finally got to stretch the legs of my savage 308 today and was very pleased with the performance of this rifle. i bought the rifle new and didnt do the "barrel break in" just cleaned the barrel with a few patches then blew threw 50rds of various ammo to see what it likes. then ran a bore snake threw it twice and went threw another 50rds, it shot moa at 100yrds with any ammo but shot .5in with 165smk and 175smk naturally.even at 200yrds i was able to shoot inder 1in groups with the crappy noodle stock. after some upgrades i finally got to hit up a 500yrd range today and made my way out to 500yrds effortlessly. this rifle shoots dead on cold bore or 20rds later still ringing 4x4in and 6x6in steel at 500yrds. i ran threw 120rds today with only two passes with the snake, im in love with this rifle. im using factory federal 175smk ammo, choate tactical stock, egw 20moa rail, swfa low 30mm rings, ss 5-20 scope and cheap bipod with accu-shot monopod.

two shots low center and one on the top right bolt 500yrds

still ringing steel with hot barrel 500yrds

my savage, mp15 and aic 22lr

I soooooo hate you for having the 5-20 SS scope. ;D
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

Yes, I've got one coming with my Choate. They make them in 3/4" and 1" heights. Bought it from Tacticalworks.

I have the SWFA SS 5-20 as well. My savage also sits in the Choate tactical, although I have the Karsten cheek rest.

How do you like the 3-way adjustable butt plate? Does the LOP increase over the stock part by much? When would you really even need to adjust it? When changing between shooting from prone versus shooting off a bench?

How about the monopod? Is it as stable as using a rear sand bag? Also, how did you mount it to the Choate?

the butt plate extends the stock by an inch and the way i shoot raising the the butt plate really made sitting behind the rifle more natural. i dont re-adjust the buttplate goin from the bench or prone to standing. as for the monopod, i dont use a rear bag...kind of defeats the purpose of the monopod. i dont lock it and leave it...i use it like its used here.

to mount it im using the RAR kit from tacticalworks
