The BATFE site says if the barrel is over 16" and the gun is over 26", there's no problem. Here's the cut off M10 stock, with a grip bolted and glued on, and with lead shot in epoxy in the stock, then with a 30X Lyman STS scope. More work was done on the grip, pix to follow.

At those lengths it's not classified as a pistol anymore...

It was and will still be a rifle.

    Correct.
See the pix on the specialty pistols site. Some of those are/look like short rifles.
I have 22" barrel in 308, on the gun now.
I like this pseudo-pistol a lot. I ONLY shoot from the bench.
I like it so much, I'm thinking of selling my Striker.
As work progresses, I'll post more pix-if anyone is interested.

No matter what anybody says about using a "rifle action" to build a pistol, if the barrel is "at least" 16" long and the OAL of the rig is at least 26", the bottom line is it's still a rifle! 8) And it doesn't have to be a "designated" action! It's still a rifle! ;D

    Re: M10 PISTOL SAVAGE

I'm thinking about selling the blue Striker in 308 with a 22-250 bbl also, and buying a Simmons target scope and a barrel. John Ardito wrote about shooting a barrel with a 40X action on each end. Would a barrel chambered ex. 300 blkout on one end and 7.62 X 39 on the other end, both ends threaded for small shank make sense??? I shoot 99% cast bullets, 100 yards, targets only. 'd need a threaded protector for the other end. This all for the M10 pistol. Any bads on the 300 blackout?
    Thanks;

7.62x39 = .311 bore (traditionally so be careful if you buy factory ammo)
    300 Blk/30-221/300 Whisper = .308 bore

    Other than that...nope

FWIW: I have a Savage 7.62x39. It has a .308 bore. I've shot both .308 handloads and .311 factory loads through it with no trouble at all.

Using my awsome powers of Google-fu, I have found much research already done about susonic loads for the 7.62x39. My thought is that if you have one of these calibers, you don't really need the other ( ::) right...since when has "need" really been a factor in obtaining a new rifle or caliber? ), as they are extremely similar as far as projectiles, MV, retained energy and subsonic capability.

On the other hand, I really like your out of the box thinking about a double-ended barrel. I say, "Go for it!" :D

I think a more clever guy than I could make the plastic Savage stocks so that a hand grip for
pseudo-pistol and/or shoulder stock for rifle could be attached.

The nice people at Choate did, Look at the Ultimate Varmint and Sniper stocks. Cut off the shoulder stock and voila, pistol stock.

What I meant was to cut off the shoulder stock part and you've got front and rear. Make a pistol grip/handle. Add metal doohickys, maybe pieces of picatinny rail. Now you can go from pistol grip stock to rifle stock-back and forth. Makes the rifle shorter easier to transport.
