    Axis .223 bolt question

I just picked up a new Axis .223
There is a hitch or catch when lifting up the bolt about 2/3rds of the way up. Is this normal?

Yup that is the primary extraction cam/ramp without it the case will not extract from the chamber.

Thanks. I had read reviews where the Axis bolt was described as "silky smooth" so I thought something might be wrong.

Most of it's bolt travel is silky smooth. It has the worst "hitch" in motion when lifting an already cocked bolt. After firing it is more of a steady bolt lift- even if a little hard. Back and forth and closing the bolt are very smooth- at least on my 2.
