    1899 in 38-55 pics

OK Mad Dog - tell me what I got! Took a bit to get the barrel off (think someone "fixed it" so it wouldn't be loose) but here are the pics. Thought the stock had been cut down till I took the rubber plate off.

    It's all factory.....told ya.

    I'd say 1899A Short Rifle with a T/D option.

Never seen a short rifle with that buttplate on it yet though. Seen some special order guns with that buttplate just never a short rifle yet. I've got the same gun same caliber just without the T/D.

If I were in your shoes I'd spend the money on that gun and see what the records say about it. If theres a work order number with the factory letter then something was done to it at the factory.

Only thing I can see right now that isn't factory is the front sight and I imagine down the line it was changed to use the peep sight better. The bead on that front sight would be better for a peep sight instead of the factory german silver is.

Very nice gun, you did good.

    I'm guessing thats a Lyman 56S?

Can't really make out any stamps on the sight.

Just marked "Lyman - Middlefield, Conn"

    No other marks.
