I prefer Sightron myself but just for hunting i would say if you can look thru both of them get the one you like the best. If i had to take a chance sight unseen i would go sightron and spend the extra.

I've never tried a Sightron but do have a 4200 and really like the clarity and accuracy of adjustments.

I've never had a Sightron, but bought a Bushnell 4200 last year on sale for$400. I put it on a 20 practical for varmints. No problems, and as good as much more expensive scopes that I've used.

I've got a pair of the E4200 6-24x40 AO, one with a standard plex reticule and one with a target dot. Both great scopes.

The Nikon scopes are on sale right now. The $100 instant rebate puts the 5-20x44 in your price range. Just another one to consider.

You can never go wrong with a Sightron. Just ordered a 8x32x56 MOA and have the scope you're looking at on another rig.

Declaration- I'm no Sightron hater, I have 5 of the SIII 10-50x60 scopes.

FWIW- A few years ago, I had a Nikon 6.5-20x44 that I sold to purchase a used Sightron SII 6-24x. Right before I shipped off the Nikon, I placed the two scopes side by side and looked through them (to see if I could see a difference with the extra 4x), bouncing back and forth. The Nikon was visibly clearer than the Sightron, the Sightron had a slight haze to it. The tracking wasn't working properly so I sent the scope to Sightron and they sent me a new scope. Optics were no clearer so I sold it before even mounting it. It's been a few years as mentioned, maybe the glass has gotten better on the SII line. The SIII is certainly good. I've had mine right next to my (4) Nightforce 12-42x56's and really couldn't tell a difference optically. My wallet could though at $800/ea new.
I have a Bushnell E4200 8-32x on a 10-22 and the optics are very clear. I wouldn't hesitate to use that scope for other rifles if I needed to, it's an excellent scope for the money.

Since you also mention other options, I just picked up one of these 8-32x Weavers with the German reticle. I mounted it on an AR15. I've only shot it one time so no long term report here but, initial impression is very good. I've had T36's in the past that were excellent so I'm hoping this will be the same. If you can accept one of the reticle choice's available, the price is definitely right for the features it has (30mm tube, fully multi-coated, side focus, etc). Sadly, mine came with no sunshade or lens caps though.

I have a SII 4-16x42 as well as 4 SIII 6-24x50's. The SII is pretty picky about eye placement, but is very clear, and functions great.

I also just picked up a couple of the Weaver Classic Extreme's.Both are 6-24x50 with the German #4 reticle.Weaver makes a great scope, and these are right up there with scopes under a $1k on clarity and performance. They have almost too much eye relief,I mounted one of them on my RRA Varminter AR15,and really had to move it forward on the rail. The other is mounted on my Savage 12-223.I had the Sightron SII on it previously, but I think the Weaver found a new place to stay.

Those Weaver Classic Extremes look very interesting. How much elevation adjustment do they have?

Can I get a photo of the turrets?

    Thanks
