How deep to make flutes in a bolt?

Hi guys, I would like to flute some of my bolts, how deep can I go with the flutes?
I have fluted a few barrels, but never a bolt. These will be strait flutes.
    Thanks.

Well, if you study it a bit, you'll find that the wall thickness on the bolt body is .105". Straight flutes would be fine on a single shot, but they don't work well for a repeater. Hope you have carbide.

You are right, I guess I did not think about feeding issues with a straight flute. I just like to tinker, but I guess I will leave this to professionals. I do have some carbide ball end mills, but my concave cutters that I use for barrel fluting are not carbide. It's just not worth the money to buy carbide, just to play.
    Thank you
