Anyone shorten the stock on their Axis?

I have a new to me stainless .223 Axis, stock is a tad long. Is the recoil pad glued in to the stock or what. I am thinking of shortening about an inch, anyone tried that here, all feedback welcome.

Yes I did it on 2 rifles.
But Its not great at all.
The recoil pad is clipped in the stock, the tab is on the top rear end of the stock, small sqare protusion of 3/8x3/8.
but FIRST you have to remove the sling swivel ( he hold the pad )
Then cut the stock , and resize the pad, and glue it bach in place, because de tab will be out by the cut.
and drill another hole for the sling swivel, which I re-enforce by some Bedding compound.

If I had to do it again: my bet would be : Order a Youth one directly from Savage.
