    How did I Miss This?

Since when does Savage offer the 375 Ruger?

I see the Bear Hunter, Alaskan Brush Hunter, and the 11/111 hunter are offered in it.

new for the 2012 line-up.. I saw the Alaskan Brush Hunter in person last week and they look awesome. Looks like a real short varmint contoured barrel with open sights on it.

I really like the looks of the Bear Hunter as well, with its camo stock and fluted barrel. I wish Savage would have some more fluted models available.

I would imagine that the 375 in the 11 with a sporter barrel would be a real butt-kicker, or should I say shoulder kicker.

I was thinking about a 338 WM in one of the Hog Hunter models, but 375 just might be calling my name.

Re: How did I Miss This?

I had a 22" bbl 375 ruger set up on a control feed action.
    Leupold 2-7x, Duromax stock etc.

Ran full tilt 270 gr TSX loads though it and did not think the recoil was bad at all.
Think I got up to about 2700 FPS over RL15. Over that and I started getting pressure signs.

My daughter and her husband had plans to go to Africa for a few years and he is a hunter
so I wanted to try one out. Used it to hog hunt with for about 8 months just to try and get used to it.

Couple of situations ripped off 3 consecutive rounds PDQ at running hogs in the brush and the recovery time to me was no different than
say a 30-06 heavy load etc.

I think that was a lot to do with the Duromax stock though.

Funny, I thought that the 225 grainers I loaded had more felt recoil than the 270 gr TSX.

The ballistics are really pretty decent too.
For a heavy hitter with some range its a good one.
Heavier hitter with less range 416 Ruger since you can toss a 400 gr pill at around 2400 fps.

Africa did not work out so I sold the barrel, but will say if I was going to AK or Africa one of those would be going along.
Been looking for a SS 375 ruger barrel for a while now.

As far as the AK brush hunter, I think an 18" barrel is too short for a 375 ruger and you would lose a good bit of FPS, plus it would increase the
felt recoil and muzzle blast and muzzle flip a lot. 22" seemed like a good place to be when I had that barrel.

I chopped a 338/284 barrel from 24" to 19" and it turned it into a super jumpy little ba$tard. Still good and really handy but a lot more muzzle rise.

I think a Savage ABH in 358 Win would be excellent.

A 35 Whelen with 250 grain slugs at 2500FPS aint no slouch either. 225 at 2650 or 200 gr. at 2750 works too. IMR4320 for the 200, IMR 4064 for the 225 and IMR3031 for the 250.

Yeah I got a Whelen barrel and that would be a good one to add to the list.

Actually I would also like to see a 338 fed, 338-06 or a 35 whelen and a 416 Ruger added to the lineup.
That pretty much covers the planet.

Anybody know what barrel shank size Savage is making the 375 Rugers in?
