    45acp

Savage 10 to 45acp - can it be made into a repeater? I know it will work ss. Found a little info over on quarterbore.net but now that web site is locked up. A smith by the name of Spook was working on one. Anybody else have any info? thanks

There was some info about one a member here did over on the photo section. Looked really neat. I wouldnt mind trying one if the cost was reasonable. But his was single shot. Maybe a stock could be made to handle 1911 mags.

Or maybe one in one of the big pistol rimless rounds like 50 beowolf or similar rounds of the 400 calibers

Search 45acp and it should he on the second page at the very bottom. The OP was dolomite. Ive seen a lot of posts from him and he seems to really be one of the more savy savage people on here. Seems like his 45acp carbine was easy enough to make. Check it out.

Thanks for the reply. Had looked at it a few times but was hoping, wanting, needing a repeater...

For all the costs involved and you need a .45 cal. repeater, consider a Rossi or Tauarus clone of the Winchester model 92 in .45 long colt.
Probably about the same as the conversion costs. And once converted the Savage will be a dedicated .45 auto as rebarreling back to a standard caliber will also be cost prohibited.

Looks like that might be the way to go. Sort of liked those cheap 45 shells. Graf & son had some on sale for $12 box. thanks

With the .45 colt you can make cheap ammo by buying cast bullets cheap and relaoding with some of the hand tools available. Its how the old boys did it. Save the good bullets for serious hunting loads and the cast for cheap practice and plinking. You may find yourself shooting that model 92 a lot. Great for kids to learn on as well.

Look at the 45 Win Mag. Slightly longer than the 45 ACP with much more power. Equal or better than the 44 mag.

Marlin makes their Model 1894 lever gun in 45 Colt, 44 mag and .357 mag/.38 Special. If you are looking for ammo that's cheap to buy and even cheaper to reload, the .357/.38 Special chambering is just what the doctor ordered and you can have a wide range of power by your choice of bullets and powders.

Ruger has a nice line of pistol calibers in the 77 series. It would be nice if they offered it in 45 acp or LC to compliment there existing line. Theres just something about a pistol cal like the 45acp or even the 45 win mag in a handy carbine thats bolt operated. Im still playin w the thought of the 357 ruger 77 for our bowling pin competitions at our gun club. ;D

    Re: 45acp

Not the 458........45 win mag......it's a pistol cartridge.

Longer more powerful version of the 45 ACP.

This is the 45 Win mag. I do not know how you'd headspace off a rimless pistol round, I'd go for a shortened 450 marlin case. cut it down to 1.2" or so, headspace off the belt, and use a standard magnum magazine and bolt head. some mods of course, AND it would be a wildcat, but it was just a thought.

Just like they do in the pistols - off the case mouth.
