    Re: Best Shooting Mat

Interesting... I got one of those Midway mats a couple years ago for my wife to use. About the second time it got used, one of the straps tore off. Later the other one came loose.

My opinion... for $40-50 they ain't a bad value, but not even close to the quality/durability of a Creedmoor Sports mat.

One thing to watch out for... on some mats the black rubber can get dangerously hot in the sun. I've never seen anyone get physically 'burned' from one, but I have seen people flop down on their mat and bounce back up ki-yi-ing like a kicked dog If you get one that does that but still want to have your gun set up between relays or during cease fires, just flip the back end of the mat up over the front - it also protects your ammo and scope from the worst of the heat as well.

The other mat I use a lot is from TAB Gear. Basically a ground cloth made from Cordura, with some very thin padding around the elbow region, it folds up to about 10" x 12" x 1" thick (can roll up too). Very light weight if you feel like a pack mule hauling all your stuff back and forth to the line and don't shoot off concrete firing lines much.

Cabelas just came out with one. I think it was $80. Looked pretty nice from the picture.
