except it is supposed to go between the baffle and the bolt body.
Took my bolt apart to move the washer between the head and baffle. Now I can keep the Ultima Lube on the lugs.Piece o' cake. Now if I could just find a cheap beater rifle to play with ;D

That's where it was and I moved it to keep grease on the lugs.

+2.....That's what I did with mine too.
Make that +3 On advice from Sharpshooter. Just finished a build for a friend, Stevens action w/ Take off 22/250 bbl. Used dry moly on lugs & it stays there. Doesn't get wiped off by the baffle anymore. Could be a little wishful thinking that action cycles more smoothly but it sure seems that way. :)
All the years I couldn't keep grease on the bolt and all I had to do was move that miserable washer. I didn't know until about a year ago when I started lurking & reading here. Something so simple makes bolt maintenance so simple...
'Scuse me while I whip this out...!
I just moved the one on my 300wsm last night. That washer seems stiffer than the others I've done. It was fine between the baffle and bolt body but where it is now the baffle sure rotates awfully tight. I guess it will break in.
Hi is there a link to this mod or instuctions of some sort.
Thanks Dean
RUMs are like woman in Stiletto heals, you know they are going to put you in the poor house, but that has never stopped anyone from pursuing them.
Do you guys cycle your bolts often enough to NEED to keep them lubed? I can see if hunting in rainy country like AK or something, but is it really a concern? Not being a snot, just really curious.
The grease is between the locking lugs and mating surface on receiver, helps with bolt lift.Just helps smooth things out.

It seems to me that moving the washer kind of defeats the purpose of the floating bolt head, but I did move it on my 110 .243 and it still shoots the same and the lube stays on the lugs better. As for lubing the lugs with the factory setup I just turn the baffle apply lube and rotate the baffle back while holding down compressing the washer, that will at least get some lube where it needs to be. I've been using moly brake pad lube.
There really is an excuse for everything!
The locking lug recesses have a cam to them and when the lugs rotate into them it pulls the bolt forward to fully chamber the rifle. There is quite a bit of pressure to this camming process. The grease lubs it and keeps it from wearing too much and from galling the same as lubricating any other moving part. I also put grease on the cocking cam and extraction cam as well for the same reason.
