    First time shooting at 600

The load was 175 SMK, using 41.3grains of RL-15. They chrony at 2550fps. Savage 10 .308 20" barrel. I had never shot at this distance before or even pass 200 yards. It took me about 5 shots to get on target. I was blown away at how much 6mph wind effects a bullet at 600 yards.

I only shot about 10 rounds at 600, but it all came together with those 10. I was able to read the mirage and make the needed adjustments. It was freaking awesome.

In a few weeks I hope to shoot 600 again and I hope the wind is playing fair.

As you've learned, accurate wind reading is very essential. Good shooting.

You are HOOKED now my friend! Its just gonna grow from there and when you hit 1000 yards, you will start looking for that mile long mark. thats where im at now and planning on a 338 lapua just to shoot a mile. Congrats man! You will be amazed at how tight your groups will get after trigger time at those ranges, and how easy 3 and 400 yard shots become.

Done some 600 yard shooting today as well. I was shooting my 260AI savage and my buddy was shooting his 22/250 Savage. The target to the left has a 12" black circle for size reference on the rocks.

you are 100% correct I am hooked. I just built another target stand and ordered a 12" AR500 1/2" gong. I can't wait to hear it ring at 600yds.

I plan on putting steel targets starting at 300yds and go out to 1000yds, so i can make notes for adjustment. I can't wait for warmer weather now.

You need to stop, and you need to do it now. This is a very serious problem, one that only gets worse. In your best interests I am willing to hold on to any firearms related to this habit until you feel you are better. BTW good shooting.

If you can find a decent berm at 600 it's always fun just to lay a few clay birds on it and shoot at them. You can see your splash most of the time and adjust accordingly. I get a little bored shooting paper all the time.

Well we are done at the range, and we have a new member of the 1000 yard club, My girlfriend did it with 3 different rifles! first with the BOTW cooper rifle, then with her little 270,and then with my 116 300 win mag.The botw rifle shoots lights out, I was shooting 12x13 inch steel chickens at 880 yards but the really cool thing is my little ole savage 116 did the same thing took 2 shots to tumble the chicken in tricky conditions, we had wind and snow and the wind was constantly changing. The Huskemaw scopes work great, and the glass is just crystal clear, even on the new 3x12x42.

Believe it or not my club, the Nashua Fish and Game Association here in the small state of NH has a formal 600 yd range and is used by the state association for its NRA target rifle and military matches. I have shot for my Legion team there with an M1. All this in 26 acres with a 45 position range to 100 yds, covered, a combat range, a so called Federal range, a boy scout BB range. a field archery course and a one acre fishing pond, a 10 position indoor range in which we have held international and NRA matches with computerized turning targets to 25 meters. And its 2 miles from my house. As a senior member of 33 yrs I pay $10/yr. How lucky am I?
