As long as you reheadspace with the new bolthead it's not a problem. I once took 2 rifles to the range with only 1 bolt, should
have seen some of the looks I got. But nobody said a word.
I am in the process of building a savage model 12, going from a .223 to a .308. I have just got my new criterion barrel and I am waiting on a new fluted bolt and bolt head. My question is, I have another SA savage that is in 22-250, can I use that bolt in the new build until my new bolt and head arrive? I would like to start some load development.
I know that I will have to re-head space when I get the new bolt, but would like to know if there is any issues with using the other bolt? After making sure my barrel is a good shooter I would also like to turn down and thread the barrel for a muzzle brake, what is the standard thread size for 30 cal? Thanks

For your muzzle threads...
With a Varmint Contour Barrel 5/8-24 is pretty standard. On Sporter Contour 9/16-24 works well.
204, 22 K-Hornet, 222, 223, 22-250, 22-250AI, 6BR, 243, 243AI, 6-06, 6-WSM, 250-3000AI, 270, 7-08, 7RM, 30BR, 308, 30-06, 375 H&H, 444 Marlin, 450BM, 458WM
Thanks for the info, I did not think it would be an issue using the other bolt for a while, but just wanted to be safe. Thats why I like Savage's. Can't wait to get my fluted bolt and waiting ten weeks for the stock is going to kill me. I will start working up some loads.
