    Question on mounts/base

I had picked up a rifle in a trade. I started with your run of the mill hunting rifle. After removing the the scope and rings it appears that the two piece bases are possibly soldered.
I prefer a picatinny one piece type base. Also its and older reciever but its not a "flat back" like my other Savage.
What are my options at this point as far as a single piece base?

    Re: Question on mounts/base

If those are the brazed on mounts that was put on at the factory some yrs back you would have to remove them with heat, not a good idea especialy on the front mount. See if your local gunsmith can mill them off. then drill and tap the receiver. Looking at that mount I see thread marks from a screw that was probably from a ring set that was canted to the left. That couldnt have been good.

Some of them was cast recievers and the mount was cast into the mold.
