    What to expect from a 10PC 5R?

I own a few Savage rifles, including a Model 10 Precision Carbine, but I succumbed to the tempation and ordered another, the Model 10 Precision Carbine with the fluted, threaded, 5R rilfed barrel. I can't seem to find much online in the way of what to expect from the rifle, so I thought I'd ask here.

If you have one, how does it shoot? Does it seem to like one particular type of ammo and/or bullet the best?

More info would help, like what cartidge, handloads or factory loads? Does the barrel and tang free float?

The Model 10 Precision Carbine with the 20" fluted, threaded, 5R rifled barrel is only available in .308 with an 11.25" twist. Otherwise it's identical to the regular 10PC, which I already have. Same Accustock, same Accutrigger, same everything else.

I've found that my current 10PC likes the 175ish grain stuff, but with different rifling and a different rate of twist, I was wondering what people have experienced with the "new" 10PC.

I have never owned the model that you're speaking of....but I did have a Rem. Milspec 5R with a 1:11.25" twist barrel. As you found with your other rifle...my 5R did well with better quality ammo from 165 gr. to 175 gr. Federal Gold Match ammo with 175 gr. SMK bullets shot the best of any factory ammo...right @ 1/2" for 5 shot groups at 100 yards. Depending on how far you want to reach out.....the 175's, generally, are the ones that folks use....say for shooting at 1K.

Good Luck.....I would love to have a .308 with a can on it( you said the 20" barrel was threaded)...but my state doesn't allow it .

Since I started getting in to suppressors I have realized that the cost and hassle of getting barrels threaded can really add up. Now I purposely look for factory threaded guns to buy instead. I really like my 10PC, so when I saw the 5R version with the threaded barrel, I had to have it. Everyone seems to be raving about the 5R rifling these days, so I guess that's an added bonus.

I think you'll be thoroughly satisfied. I have a Krieger barrel and a Bartlein with canted rifling...besides the factory Remington. The Bartlein feels as smooth as silk when I clean it after a shooting session...and it's clean in no time. All of my 5R barrels have been exceptionally easy to clean. Can't say whether there is any gain in velocity to be had.....but they've all been excellent shooting barrels.

Good Luck.....I envy you for being able to have a suppressor....Some day I'll move to a state that allows it :).

My FFL just let me know that the new 10PC has arrived! I'll be stopping there on my way home from work tonight to pick it up! ;D

And I couldn't wait to put the Tactical Works bolt handle on the new one!

Very nice sticks...both of them. What maker of can are you planning on using?

I don't know. I've got three different cans now from three different manufacturers, so we'll see what strikes my fancy when the time comes.

I'd like something light(er) though so I can also use it on my short 300 Blackout guns without it being too front heavy.

Gemtec Sandstorm or Thunderbeast Arms 30-P or 30-BA would be my choices for a good lightweight can.

I just traded into 1 of these with a black stock.... Love the rifle but hate the accutrigger blade, after reading about the issues with the trigger guard bolt release & some aftermarket triggers i decided to go with a SAV1 from Riflebasix
