    .439 bolt face

Does anyone make a bolt face for a savage to fit the 7.62x39 round, or will I just have to take a 223BF and have it opened up to .439? I assume that I will also need a different extractor? If I have to get the 223BF opened up, who does the best job for the best price? Many thanks. Cheers, BR

Savage makes rifles in 7.62x39 so there is a factory part that will fit - not sure spares have entered the supply chain yet. SSS offers PPC bolt heads (which are the same size) as a stocked item I believe.

I opened up a .378" bolt head and it works fine for the 7.62x39 I just built. As a matter of fact I didn't even have to mess with the factory extractor.

I used a Stevens 200 chambered in 223 for the build. It feeds from the magazine great and ejects fine.

You could also use a .473" (308 Win) bolt head with SSS's PPC extractor. Most times the factory extractor will work but you might get a failure to extract from time to time. That is why SSS's extractor is wanted.

You will also enjoy the round with a mcgowen barrel and I use the 125 sierra pro hunters and get under a half inch at 200 yds with it.I simply love my mcgowens, everyone shoots real well.As fior your bolt head, any smith worth his salt should be able to order the .440 bolt head direct from savage.Or open the .378 to the .440 easily. You are gonna absolutely love the rifle you will build but I would go with the .308 bore if you want a better bullet selection. If you buy rcbs dies they are set up to do weither because of the ruger mini 30 is a true 30 caliber bore.

That is what I used. What I really like about it is the ejector pressure isn't high like before. The cases eject fine but basically drop out of the action making brass collection easy.

If you get a hold of the guy from SavagegunSmithing.com he should be able to hook you up with a new bolt face.
