Sightron III 6-24x50 or 8-32x56, which one?

Well Im having a hard time deciding which scope to get. I will be using this scope primarily for target shooting (200 yd max) and deering hunting (300 yd. max) primarliy from a blind. I want to see the bullet holes (.243/7mm-08) on paper through the scope at 100 and 200 yd. My sight aint the best so i figured the higher magnification would help me. Would these mentioned scopes be overkill? I have read alot of great posts and comments about the sightron III, thats why Im considering these. Does anyone have any other recommendations for my intended purpose? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That's setting the bar pretty low. My cheap simmons whitetail classic can see 6mm holes at 200 with no problems on 20x, I am sure either one of those will accomplish the mission.

That's what I was thinking Jimbo. Current range in local area maxed out at 200 yds. Can get the 6-24x50 for $713.93 shipped or the 8-32x56 for $720 shipped, both with target dot reticle. From a price perspective I should go with the 8-32x56, but don't want it to be too much scope (well the 6-24x50 may be as well). Thanks for your input.

I think you should go with the 6-24 instead of the 8-32.

Now, I need to disclose that I am not a hunter so I am not speaking from experience...

    but...

Higher magnification means narrower field of view. If you are hunting you may need the lower power to find your target, then dial up the mag for the shot. Since anything from 18x on up is capable of seeing 6mm holes at 200 yards the real question is how low do you need to go?

I don't know how much of a difference 6x would be compared to 8x. If you have a 3-9 scope handy, you can do some tests with it on rapid target acquisition at both 6 and 8 to help you decide :)

your saying 200-300 is the limit - right? So 24x is plenty.....

you'll love the scope....better optics than nightforce for less than half the cost :)

the 6-24 will be fine at 200-300....but, why NOT just go ahead and get the 8-32 or even the 10-50??? the 10-50 comes with 1/8moa clicks, as opposed to 1/4moa....and you don't HAVE to use it on the highest power....and if you decide to shoot longer ranges later on, you have the power at your fingertips already

GSR, good advice for sure, I went and ordered the 6-24x50 yesterday, will see how it does. From the feedback on the forum, I should be satisfied.

Anyone would know what height rings (signature zee) I would need to clear the scope. Gonna use the EGW HD one piece base. Mounted on a savage 10 .243 with mcgowen barrel varmint 1 contour.
