Best options for a 270 Win barrel?

Looking for an aftermarket 270 Win barrel. Would love to go with a Criterion but they don't offer one. Who should I be looking at/talking to for a quality heavy sporter weight or similar 24-26" prefit? Thanks, Matt.

Any of the site sponsors on this site. Northland Shooters Supply, SharpShootersSupply, SinArms.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Sorry to not be clear, I understand that all of the major barrel makers offer 270 Win pre-fits, was looking more for ones that have worked well for users here. Which are better than the others etc.

Have a McGowen on my 111, shoots rather well. 24", Savage magnum taper. Note load is above most books max, always reduce, can give your more info if you are interested. Also note groups are shot off the bipod with a rear bag, but were shot before I got much better off the bipod, definite technique to it.

    Thanks for the replies.

Blue, do you mean a 6.8-08 wildcat? It sounds interesting, where did you hear about it?

AK, that's some good shooting for sure! Which stock is that?

    It's a Stockade Rollover Thumbhole.

By the way what is this barrel for? The .277 caliber comes up short in the ballistic coefficent department, so I never really seen the point in the 270-08 or the 6.8spc, I shoot the 130 sst due to it having the best b.c. in the 130 range and I can shoot them fast enough to make up for the little bit b.c. difference that 140s make. The 130 sst offers a .460 b.c. not great but @ 3150fps it's still decent.

you might want to check this one out. For $80 its hard to go wrong. Mine shoots Nosler BT 130's and Accubonds lights out with IMR 4350 or Reloder 17.

I would like to know more about this barrel and the company selling them? I don't recall savage ever making a heavy sporter 270 barrel with a recessed crown. Is this company reputable?

I think they are probably one of the largest dealers of firearm parts around. The barrel I received has a regular hunting style crown. It also had some staining and surface rust which cleaned up fairly easily with oil and steel wool. As far as Savage ever making a model with this exact barrel, im not sure But whatever the details it's really tough to go wrong for the price. I couldn't be more pleased with mine.

Re: Best options for a 270 Win barrel?

Hi recently installed a Mcgowan 270 11 twist 26inch barrel on my stevens action, I got they 11 twist since I prefer they Barnes 85gr and they Sierra and Speer 90gr that combined with 64gr of RL-17 makes for one Nasty round, It gives that warm and fuzzy feeling, I tell you the fps that this combo generates, 4000 + rivals my 220 swift, when I installed the barrel I set it tight on the min max with the head space guages, "that's one piece of scotch tape instead of two for those who choose to do it that way" I noticed it is easier the brass.

    Thanks Dean

Criterion does offer a 270 Win chamber. I do not stock it but one is available.

Cool. and thanks about my rifle...it was my first build. I hope yours shoots well. YOu will have to let us know how it does once you get it put on. I know all barrels are different, but for some reason mine really likes a big jump to the lands. I have tried every length to and from the lands, and it really does the best with nosler bts and accubonds at 3.30" OAL, which is 150 thousandths off the lands!
