110 Mods for 340 Weatherby Mag?

I've got an "old" (staggered feed, pre-accu) 110 that I'd like to rebarrel to 340 Bee. I want to make sure that I have considered all the necessary expenditures:

    bolt head/ejector/extractor
    mag box/follower

Are there other mods necessary for this change-over? I called NSS a year or so ago about this and it seems to me that Jim said there was a 'smith somewhere who would take care of whatever was necessary for this? Would anyone have the name/contact info for that individual?

    Thanks all,

    efw

    .

Fred Moreo of Sharp Shooter Supply in Ohio could do it all.

While Fred Moreo is fantastic he is up to his eyeballs in work because is that good. SinArms is another very good Savage mechanic and has a great reputation as well. He might get your work done a bit faster than Fred. You will have to call both to get an estimate on time. Good luck.

Does the action have to be opened up? I converted mine to a 338 Wm and it seems like any longer cartridge would force the bullets to be pushed too far back in the case.

I assume there is a "special" magazine well for the weatherby, cause the "magnum" mag well I got online, was the same length as the one I had before for my 30-06. The only difference was a slight relief in the feed lips where the belt sits.

The "magnum" mag is for the "short" magnums that are on a 30-06 length case (7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 338 win mag, 458 Win mag etc.). For the full length magnums based on the 375 H&H case you need a 375 H&H box.

That makes sense, but does the action have to be modded to accommodate it? If so, how?

Yes the magazine cutout in the bottom of the receiver will have to be milled out a little longer in order for it to fit.

I believe that it will also have to have that small dovetail cut for the front end of the new mag ot slip into as well as the opened receiver.

    .

During the years that Savage made only one action length (long), they built 223's on the long action with a short magazine.

Fred Moreo converted one of these 223 Savages to the 375 H&H for me.

Made it a much better prairie dog rifle.

    Stopped some charging bulls.

Not quite as effective as a 470 Capstick though.

No margin for error on old PD bulls with the 375.
