Go/NoGo question

I was wondering if I can use my 280 Remington go/no-go gages on the 6.5-06 that I am building? I had one guy tell me that they will work an anything that is based on the 06 cartridge and another said no! ??? Who is right?

The 280 is the one 06 based cartridge that is "different" - shoulder is forward. So it won't work.

Eric is correct. The 280 is based on the 06 cartridge but was lengthened so that it would not chamber in the 270 ( and less likely the 25-06) since there is only .007 diffence in the cartridge dimensions.

Well you can use 30-06, 25-06, 35 Whelen gauges on the 6.5-06. Just not the 280 (it is the oddball in the 06 family).
