Questions on my new savage 111 fcxp3

I recently purchased a 111 fcxp3. I am well pleased with the gun but have a couple of questions. I have looked everywhere for exploded views of this gun with absolutely no luck. Does anyone know where i can find an exploded view? secondly I am wondering if there are stock upgrades for this model? I would appreciate any info you can provide. I have heard that the 111 is the same as the 110 except for the detachable box mag. Is there any truth to this?

    Thanks all,
    Rob

    Welcome to the site.

What you have is a package gun offered by Savage. The gun uses the old style pre accu-trigger design trigger, and uses a staggered feed magazine.

That gun is a bit different than the newer guns. It would be the same gun as an older 110 (pre 2000) Or the same as an older Stevens 200 (pre 2006) without detachable magazine. Savage also made the exact same gun as a 110c for many years. The gun is completely different than the newer detachable magazine guns, so there parts will not work. The stock can be changed but would require a lot of extra work done by you or a gunsmith.

Here is a schematic of your gun.

Re: Questions on my new savage 111 fcxp3

Got the same rifle in 30 '06. I sent mine to Fred and Lisa and they did an incredible (normal for them I hear) job on timing the bolt and smoothing out the action. He also fitted the spare magazines I bought from Savage and had fitting problems with. Made it into a whole other kind of animal for reasonable money. I put a 3.5 x 10 VX III, an over sized bolt handle, and a limbsaver recoil pad on it. This rifle will do just about anything now. It likes just about every kind of factory ammunition and shoots both 150 and 180 grain bullets well. I find mine shoots a bit tighter when the bore is slightly dirty. I think you made a great choice in that rifle and will be happy for many years. Best of luck and don't be surprised when you put your first 5 shots in a dime sized hole.

Oops.....forgot to mention the Timney Trigger. There are other brands that work well, but this one made a huge difference on my rifle and was easy to install. Hope this helps.

82boy (or anyone else who knows),

So is the Model 11 (and I'm assuming the Model 16 as well, correct?) still a simple procedure to switch out barrels? Or is it less modular than the other actions & rifles?

    thanks.
