changing out a bolt head

Hey guys, I am converting a 270 win to a 300 win mag. I ordered a new bolt head from midway. Anyone got a link with pictures that can show ke how to do the conversion (along with swapping out the internals: extractor, spring, etc)?

I was coming to post same thing. I'm getting a 30-06 and was considering a change to .300 wm

go to youtube and search savage bolt head change. there is a pretty good 2 part video that should help

I can tell you.

Remove the rear screw that holds the bolt handle on.
Remove the cocking pin.
Remove the firing pin assembly.
Remove bolt head retaining pin.
Remove the bolt head.
Swap baffle and wave washer.
Install in reverse order.

When you start the rear screw it's a good idea to cock the firing pin. It's real tough if you wait till its tight.

On cocking the firing pin...Just start the scre a few threads then uncock. You might need to use something blunt to hell you roll it over the cam. Good advice Geargrinder.
