troubles with new magazine box

hey guys. i had a custom built out of a stevens action. started out as a 22-250 and i built a 17-204. had my smith order a new mag box(brownells i think). anywhy, it will not feed the rounds unless i so it real fast. also, the 2nd from the top round just pops out before i can even get the bolt 1/2 way closed no matter how fast i work the bolt. any suggestions??. thanks

That is part because you have a 22-250 magbox. you need to get a 204/223 magbox and see if that works due to the case size differences between the 22-250 and 204, unless that what your smith ordered for you.
If you do have the 204/223 magbox,follower, and spring you may have to tweak the mag lips a little to see what works best. As with any non-factory round there are always adjustments of some sort to be made.

I am sure your smith got the right mag box, since you already had a 22-250 box, but did he also replace the follower?

yes. the box and follower are new. 204-223. i have tried pinching and opening the lips to no avail??.

I've got a stevens that was doing that after I put it back together. (in this one) If the bottom of the spring is to the left side when you reassemble it's good to go, If it's to the right side the second round will pop out. I put some tape on the bottom to make sure the spring stays to the left side as I put it back together.

Does the magazine have a block off plat in the back of it and a short follower? Does it look like the one on the left hand side in the FAQs section?
