    Bolt head questions

I am switching a model 110 from 7mm mag to .308 bolt face. Ordered the bolt face from brownells. I took my bolt apart and the first thing I saw was that the existing 7mag has a large firing pin my new bolt head is a small. Should I open it up or order a different firing pin? The second hiccup is a tab that has been pressed out of the bolt body to engage a groove on the old bolt head. I guess it was to make sure you had everything oriented properly. Can I file this off the inside of the bolt body?

Drill out for the larger firing pin.

You can either mill out the side of your new bolthead to work with your bolt body, or just file the inside of the bolt body out.

I used a dremel to remove the tab from the bolt body.

I'd drill out the bolt head.

You'll need a fractional metal bit slightly larger than the FP diameter. Lube well and go slow doing it by hand. The BH is not real hard and drills relatively easy.

    It's a #25 drill.

Drill it up to the vent. You'll be able to see from the side.

I too just held mine by hand and drilled it larger, as for the tab that has been pressed out of the bolt body to engage a groove on the old bolt head, I had a bunch of center punches and used the one that would fit thru and just push the tab back out level, I had to use several small ones one after the other and push it out a tiny bit at a time.
