Savage Edge and Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40...

Hey guys, Im a new member here but not new to shooting. Back in 04 I bought a (new) Savage 111 30-06 package gun with the Simmons 8 point 3-9x40, shooting 150 grain Winchester Ballistic Silvertips, absolutely LOVE it and have killed a lot of deer with it. Last year I bought a Savage Edge XP Camo in 22-250, its a great gun also but last night I picked up a Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 BDC scope for it.

Just wondering if anyone has an identical setup? Curious as to where you sighted your zero at (100yds, 200yds, etc) and how the BDC is workin for you. Im shooting 55 grain Winchester Ballistic Silvertips in the 22-250. Thanks in advance and I hope to learn a good bit of info from this place.

Should be a nice setup. I don't have your combo, but if you have not already, google for Nikon's Spot on software. You can put in your bullets, scope, and zero, and it will tell you where each of the hold points is yardage wise. Has lots of cool features, and it's been pretty accurate for me.

I checked the Nikon Spot-on a lil bit ago, pretty neat little device. Im gonna try to shoot it in this weekend, even tho I should be out in the woods with my CVA Optima workin on putting more meat in the freezer lol.

I have a similar setup with the Savage Axis 30-06 and Nikon 4x12BDC scope. If you would rather not purchase the app you can go to http://www.nikonhunting.com/ Every now and then I go there and play around with the different rounds, and distances. I wanted a 50mm scope but it would not fit, and would rather not change mounts so I went with a higher power 40mm.

In my opinion Nikon offers the best $$ value for their scopes.

Have you heard of the Vortex? They make a viper and diamondback ($400 & $200) that are awesome. I have the diamondback in a 4-12 x 40 on my Edge, excellent in low light conditions.

The Nikon is 170-200$ with a life time warranty. I've been very impressed with both of my Nikons. I'm sure there is better for money, but for the money I am very impressed with my Nikons. I have 3x9 50mm on a CVA Stalker Elite (considered primative weapon in Mississippi) since I hunt mostly on public land.
At some point I will change out the factory rings and get another Nikon 50mm for my axis, and put the 40mm on my Savage 17hmr.
On a full moon with my 50mm Nikon I could hunt all night! Have not tried it with my 40mm nikon Prostaff
