    By weight.

Use a small piece of cardboard on your scales, tare it, add approximate amount you think you will need of the putty (A). Take the weight and divide by 9, tare your scale again (with the cardboard and putty). Now add enough hardener (B) to bring the scales to the number you got when you divided by 9.

Now mix - do this with a popsicle stick and kneed it in with the least amount of air mixed in - this will help keep out bubbles - stirring causes extra air to trap in the mixture and can make for a poor looking finished job.

Also, when you put it into the stock - always keep it in a mound upwards, never leave a small low spot, this will also trap air.

If I sound anal about it - it's because I have mixed gallons of epoxy over the last 25 years making samples for cross sections and SEM viewing in an R&D lab - air bubbles will allow your one of a kind sample to rip out in the blink of an eye when it hits a grinding/polishing wheel.

I use dead eyes method w/ waxed paper cup cake holders to contain parts A&B then mix on cardboard. There's a reason the Mfg. is so specific about the mix ratio. Not owning a durometer to chk hardness of finished product I'll go w/ Devcons advise rather than get finished product that is either softer than it could be, or too brittle. It's about how the product stands up over time that counts JMHO.

I use small mouthwash plastic cups. Tare out your scales with an empty cup. Then add the bedding meduim (gray stuff) to about 360 grains. Put another cup on and add 40 gr of hardener (white stuff). Scoop the hardener out of the second cup with a popsicle stick and add it to the first cup. Place first cup inside second cup to make it a little stiffer/sturdier. Stir / mix well.

This will make a little more than enough bedding compound to do a standard bedding job (unless you've really hogged out the stock). When I'm through , I leave the popsicle stick in the cup as a check to see how well the bedding is setting up. No mess. Most of the ones I do I can get by with 300gr of material and 33gr of hardener.........

Keep the cups from the tops of laundry detergent bottles, they work great for mixing, they are easy to hold on to, throw out when done. Run them through dishwasher first tho to make sure they are clean before mixing your bedding of choice.

I must have got lucky - a Lot- Ive bedded several rifles -with devcon & I just put a gob of black down - add a little white - kinda 70-30 mix by estimation & its allways set up so hard my thumbnail wont leave a mark in it & the rifles all shot well - I do seem to run out of both black & white at same time - or nearly so it must be kinda close- anyway it works for me -
If your lucky enough to live in the BIG woods your lucky enough
