Cutting a weather warrior 308 barrel and threading it to 5/8 x 24

Does anyone know what the max length I could get out of a 308 weather warrior barrel if I had it cut down and threaded to 5/8 x 24?

16" overall barrel length is what ATF says is bare legal minimums. So 16" OAL is the technical legal answer unless you want to jump through the hoops and SBR it. You could settle on a flash suppressor or muzzle break which is what I am assuming your doing. One you have that picked out measure its OAL and work with your gun smith. You could then conceivably cut the barrel shorter than 16". Lets say your Flash Suppressor Muzzel Break is 2 1/2" long...your smithy could in theory cut the barrel to 13.5" and permanently attach the FS/MB to the barrel by pinning or a small weld. Hope this helps.

BTW there is also a completed rifle OAL too...26" comes to mind, muzzle to butt plate. STAY LEGAL...

Thanks, I am aware of the 16" minimum. Bus since I have not purchased the rifle yet and have no way of measuring the barrel I am just wordering if the barrel diameter at the 16", 17", 18" is still large enough to thread to 5/8 x 24 for a suppressor. Would like to keep it a 18" of possible while still using the factory barrel.

I just measured a 22" sporter weight barrel and it isn't even 5/8" in diameter until you're at about the 17" point so probably 16 1/2" usable. A custom barrel in a magnum sporter contour might be the only way to make sure you get the length you want.

I just measured my Model 16 .243 with the factory sporter barrel and it's 5/8" diameter about 19" from the bolt face. "Barrel Length" for legal purposes is defined by putting a rod down the barrel with the action closed until it stops at the bolt face so that's where I measured from.
