    Savage 7.62x39 rifle?old school

I bought a reciever and mcgowen barrel from one of our members and finally put it all together and what a shooter. The barrel is screwed to an early 110 long action in .223 originally and you can even put 2 in the mag and one in the chamber and ues it as a repeater.I shot a few .350 groups with the lapua ammo that came with the gun parts.I tried cheaper stuff and it shot real well, way under a moa.I am thrilled,a tack drive with no recoil hardly and plenty of reasonably priced ammo out there. All I can say is thanks Brad for selling me the stuff to pull this off and being forthright and honest! By the way this cartridge is way nicer to shoot than even my beloved 30-30 winchester. The 7.62x39mm is a way overlooked cartridge considering it was the base cartridge for the ppc. If you want a tame gun with plenty of power for a youngster or recoil shy lady, give this a try.

Jon, Already have! Took a 10 twst. T/C bbl. chambered in 30 carbine & re-chambered to 7.62X39 Built solely to shoot cast boolits. The 10" T/C was a joy to shoot & yielded results similar to yours w/ 150 grnrs. I agree, the 7.62X39 is a real sleeper....... Nk. up, Nk. down, ackleyize ? Lotsa' potential particularly for 6mm or .224 varmint work. ....... Glad it worked out so well.

mcgowen specs their 7.62x39 with a .310 bore. I checked with Dan Wynne about this before I ordered the barrel and he said they used the 310 because it offered better better results than the 311 or 308. I know some of the remmy guys that have built 7.62x39s go with the 308 bore because of the bullet selection, but I was not reloading when I ordered the barrel and figured I could shoot the Lapua stuff until I started and then have great brass. I went another direction, but am glad to see it shoots great for Jon.

At 100 yds with the lapua ammo,I shot .350 and at 200 last sunday in a crosswind,I shot a .290 at 200 yds. The load was sierra 125 gr soft points over 29.0 grains of h322 with cci std primers. It shoots grrrrrrrrrreeat!

And like so many calibers that are supposed to just fall in the dirt after 1-200yds, you will find that it tips over coyotes very well at 350-400ydrs or so.
